Brandywine Hospital Welcomes Breast Surgeon
First female dedicated breast specialist joins medical staff

(Coatesville, PA, MAY 6, 2010)—As part of its mission to provide comprehensive women’s health services, Brandywine Hospital is pleased to welcome breast surgeon Paramjeet Kaur, MD, to its medical staff. Dr. Kaur is the first female board-certified surgeon at Brandywine to specialize in all areas of breast surgery, including breast cancer and other benign conditions.

“Dr. Kaur is highly experienced, well educated and brings remarkable energy, compassion and commitment to our patients and to our women’s health services,” said Bryan Burklow, CEO, Brandywine Hospital.

As the only dedicated breast surgeon at Brandywine, Dr. Kaur offers care ranging from routine, annual breast exams to thorough second opinions on previously diagnosed breast disease to the latest breast sparing surgical techniques, including nipple areola sparing mastectomies and skin-sparing mastectomies. Her areas of expertise also include minimally invasive biopsies, immediate reconstructions, sentinel lymph node procedures, and balloon catheter placement for partial breast irradiation.

Dr. Kaur earned her medical degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical School in India. She completed a residency in general surgery at Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine/Marshall University in West Virginia and a fellowship in breast surgical oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute/University of South Florida. The comprehensive breast cancer program at the Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute is recognized as one of the top ten cancer programs in the country and their breast surgical oncology fellowship is approved by the Society of Surgical Oncology. She is also published in a variety of medical journals, is a member in various professional societies, and has participated in a number of research initiatives.

Dr. Kaur comes to Brandywine from Aria Health’s Torresdale Campus where she was an attending breast surgeon.

“I’m excited about joining the Brandywine team and working closely with radiologists, pathologists, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists to provide seamless, comprehensive care to the breast cancer patient,” said Dr. Kaur.

According to Burklow, the timing couldn’t be better for Dr. Kaur’s arrival since Brandywine recently introduced two of the latest technologies in diagnostic imaging for women’s breast health including digital mammography and a 64-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner, which allows physicians to obtain unparalleled image quality of the body in only a fraction of the time required and with less radiation exposure than a standard CT scan.

“The bottom line is, this technology combined with Dr. Kaur’s expertise have enabled Brandywine to offer the most comprehensive breast health services available for women right here in our community,” added Burklow.

Dr. Kaur will be seeing patients at both Brandywine Hospital and Brandywine Family Practice in Exton. Convenient appointments are available for new patients and most major insurance plans are accepted.
