Brandywine Hospital unveiled a new short procedure unit (SPU) on Monday, January 12, during a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony. Located on the third floor, the SPU has been renovated and enhanced to provide the highest level of one-day medical and surgical care in a comfortable, welcoming environment.
The improved and larger unit will feature more patient beds, two dedicated endoscopy suites, ten surgical beds, four-bay pre-operative sedation area, eight-bay recovery room, two negative pressure suites designed to prevent cross-contamination, and separate patient and family waiting areas.
The SPU is for patients requiring a variety of surgical and diagnostic procedures, including endoscopy, intravenous (IV) Infusion, wound care, and chemotherapy. It will also serve as the general admitting area for all surgical patients having an ambulatory short procedure or inpatient general surgery. SPU staff will assure that all pre-operative testing, patient instructions, and necessary documentation are completed prior to either type of surgery.
