The Educational Program
Brandywine School of Nursing’s diploma program is designed to prepare professional nurses who integrate knowledge from the sciences and humanities and utilize the nursing process, ethical principles and legal standards to promote, maintain and restore a maximal level of wellness. The curriculum is planned to provide the student with the principles and skills necessary to assume a beginning professional nurse position in hospitals and related institutions. The nursing courses are offered in 16-week fall and spring semesters, with one pre-summer college course required. The clock to credit hour ratio for nursing courses is as follows:
16 theory hours = 1 credit
48 clinical hours = 1 credit
Graduates of the School receive a diploma in nursing and are eligible to sit for NCLEX-RN exam.
Philosophy
The Faculty of the School of Nursing believe nursing is a learned art and science. Nursing is a dynamic interaction of person, health and environment. The nurse assists the client in promoting, maintaining and restoring a maximum level of wellness.
Nursing Education is a continuous process of change that stimulates personal and professional growth. Learning involves active participation by the student who is primarily responsible for self-development with guidance from the Faculty.
Critical thinking enables the graduate to utilize nursing knowledge to provide direct care to clients in a variety of settings. The graduate collaborates with other health care team members and functions within the laws established for professional nursing.
